Lloyd never married and is survived by his brother David (1954) and a sister.

As per Lloyd's last letter dated 28 July 2009, he was happy to have received my letter dated 10th July, a phone call from Owen Amore and visits from Gordon Clarke & Keith Finnimore.   

Lloyd was diagnosed with inoperable cancer earlier in the year and was being treated with a trial drug manufactured by Bayer and considered himself very lucky and thankful to God for his treatment. Lloyd was realistic about his diagnosis and had a sense of humor, for in his closing paragraph he wrote:

“So, with all this luck on my side, maybe we will have a chance to meet again. Or like in Julius Caesar:
    If we do meet again, why, we shall smile;
    If not, why then, this parting was well made”
